A free event sponsored by AMI to benefit Southland children was a roaring success, with more than 200 people getting involved.
The AMI Kids in the City is 2km fun run/walk for children aged under 14 years organised by our Invercargill AMI branch with support from our DI marketing team. The day features prizes for everyone in recognition of all levels of achievement and is held at finish line of the annual BNZ Surf to City - a far longer fun run event held for adults.
Jeff Vincent, AMI Branch Manager Invercargill, said despite there being only 20 confirmed entrants about an hour before the event was due to start, he was confident plenty would register to take part on the day.
“By 11:15am we'd received around 20 entries to run, however it was obvious this would increase with a large number of kids participating in the main event this year,” he said.
“With half an hour to go we were flat-out signing kids up – right up until the race was about to start. The end result being 219 kids and their parents taking part in our event!
“With the Southland sun shining a couple of minutes later the first kids back started arriving and received their AMI drink bottles. Shortly afterwards it was time for prize giving and to mix it up a little this year we gave out prizes at random to ensure those that may not have been as fast still had the opportunity to win something."
